High Costs Make Retirement Difficult in Hawaii

Retiring abroad news from Retirement Utopia

Hawaii may be a paradise but its high cost of living makes retirement difficult. Largely due to excessive housing costs, places like Koloa, Haiku-Pauwela, Laie, Kula, Princeville, Kailua, Haleiwa, Kilauea, Puako and Hanalei all make the cut for worst retirement locations.

A comfortable living in Hawaii requires an annual income of at least $80,000 for singles and around $150,000 for a family, these locations exceed this with costs from 32% to 71.5% above the national average.

My Take…

Not my type of destination, but if you are looking to just chill or family focused and have the cash, I’m sure Hawaii is a great retirement destination.
