Retiring in the Dominican Republic is gaining popularity among U.S. expats, thanks to its sunny climate, low cost of living, and laid-back lifestyle. With rental prices for a comfortable home ranging from $400 to $800 per month, retirees can stretch their dollars further.
The country also offers a Pensionado visa with tax benefits.
However, proper planning is essential, healthcare access, tax obligations, and cultural adaptation should all be considered.
While occasional power outages and city traffic exist, the affordable living and Caribbean charm make it a tempting option for those seeking a warm, budget-friendly retirement.
My Take…
I lived and worked in the Dominican Republic for 12yrs, I know the country very well.
It’s popularity has piqued and this would not be on my list as a retirement destination, been there, done that.
