Ashley Probst, a Hawaii native, followed love across the Atlantic after falling for a British man during her London study abroad.
What began like a fairy-tale , romantic weekends, international getaways, quickly turned isolating upon her return on a tourist visa.
Unable to work and far from friends, Ashley found herself unfulfilled, lonely, and lost. The relationship eventually unraveled, but so came self-awareness. “Love isn’t enough,” she reflects. “You need stability, purpose, and independence, too.” Though it didn’t end as she’d hoped, she cherishes the lessons, and says she’d still do it all again.
