Portugal keeps drawing Americans in. Since 2017, the number of U.S. expats there has jumped by more than 200%, and the trend shows no signs of slowing.
The country’s appeal is easy to see, safe streets, sunny beaches, and a rich, relaxed culture.
Still, life there isn’t perfect. Winters can feel colder than expected, taxes run high, and learning Portuguese takes effort. Old houses get damp, and residency paperwork can be pricey.
Yet, for newcomers strolling Lisbon’s steep lanes, sipping coffee for a few euros, Portugal’s charm remains irresistible.
My Take…
Very popular the past 5yrs. This is reflected in real estate pricing, with some of the highest growth in Europe.
