In a new report on South America’s affordability Paraguay leads the way, it’s a place where daily life can cost a fraction of what people pay in North America. The article runs through the numbers like a traveler flipping through snapshots.
Venezuela may look cheap on paper, but hyperinflation and weak infrastructure weigh heavily on daily life. Ecuador offers balance with stability and low costs. Peru blends modern cities with deep tradition, staying affordable despite political noise. Colombia has reinvented itself, transforming into a hub for innovation while keeping prices low for everything from food to rent.
Brazil’s northeast, a paradise of beaches and rhythm, remains a strong contender, where modern amenities meet a modest lifestyle. Bolivia holds steady too, ranking high in affordability with its territorial tax system that favors foreign earners. But topping the list is Paraguay, the region’s quiet success story. With solid infrastructure, territorial taxes, and low living costs, the country is pulling in attention from investors, retirees, and curious nomads alike.
My Take…
My pick is still Colombia in this zone, maybe Ecuador when it get’s it’s cartel’s under control.
As for Venezuela being “cheap”, sure if you ignore the inflation spiral and the crime.
But Paraguay??? The surprise MVP apparently, stability, affordability, Wi-Fi that actually works 🙂
