Tiera St. Claire, 69, has been living her dream life on the road for two decades. With no permanent home and a modest £300 monthly pension, she’s managed to travel the globe by embracing an unusual but clever lifestyle choice, pet and house-sitting.
She first stumbled upon the idea when a friend in Hawaii asked her to look after their pets. What began as a favor turned into a way of life. Since then, she’s cared for animals everywhere from London to Madrid, often returning to familiar homes and furry friends who now feel like extended family.
St. Claire admits she lives light, out of a single bag, but says the pets she cares for fill any voids that come with a nomadic life. Cats, guinea pigs, even snakes have become her companions on the move.
Most of her stays are found online through platforms like HouseSit Match, where retirees increasingly swap rent for responsibility. For St. Claire, the secret isn’t just financial, it’s emotional. As she puts it, the pets “make every place feel like home.”
My Take…
Not my style of retirement, but each to their own. As long as she is happy, I’m happy 🙂
