Reporter Sasha Savinov shares his story from Puerto Vallarta, where ocean sunsets and friendly locals keep him coming back year after year. He and his wife first landed here in 2017 while traveling through Latin America as remote English teachers. A dental appointment brought them to town, but it was the vibe that convinced them to stay. They rented a small apartment for $350, took Spanish classes, and quickly fell into local life.
Since then, Puerto Vallarta has become their unofficial home base after a decade on the move. They’ve lived in various neighborhoods, from the bustling 5 de Diciembre area to the trendy Versalles district, enjoying affordable rent, great food, and an active social scene. These days, $450 a month covers a simple but comfortable apartment with reliable internet and a pool view.
Savinov describes a daily routine that sounds like paradise, morning coffee, tacos around the corner, sunsets just a fifteen‑minute walk away. The cost of living remains manageable, the people are welcoming, and festivals seem endless. After years of travel, he calls PV the perfect spot to pause, work, and recharge before hitting the road again, always knowing Mexico’s coast will be waiting with open arms and cold beer.
My Take…
Puerto Vallarta wasn’t supposed to be home, it was just a pit stop for a dentist. But you know how it goes, sunshine, cheap tacos, and locals who actually smile at you.
I can relate to that!!!!
