Couple Trades Dream Home For A Life Of Endless Travel

Neil and Sarah thought their early retirement dream was set. They’d sold everything, packed up their motorhome, and were roaming the world when fate, and a TV crew, stepped in. While attending an event in 2023, Neil spotted the team from “A Place In The Sun” doing screen tests and thought it’d be fun to take part. Sarah wasn’t keen, insisting they didn’t want to buy a house. But once the cameras rolled and they were flown out to Spain, things took a turn.

During filming, they viewed a property in Rojales that checked every box. Despite their promise not to commit, they signed on the dotted line. The thrill soon wore off. With Neil restricted by Schengen travel limits and the villa sitting empty while they were abroad, they realised homeownership was cutting into their freedom.

They sold their motorhome, applied for dual citizenship, and eventually sold the house altogether. The couple say the experience was eye-opening. According to Neil, the show didn’t ruin their plans, it revealed what they truly wanted: years of border-hopping adventure. Now, with tickets booked across Asia, they’re back to full-time travel and vow not to buy another house for a very long time.

My Take…

Eil and Sarah thought they’d nailed the early‑retirement fantasy: motorhome, open road, smug Instagram sunsets. Then “A Place in the Sun” crashed the party.

As I always say, live somewhere for at least three to six months before committing to buying.
