Vietnam has just landed on the list of top retirement destinations for the first time, marking a milestone in its development journey. The new ranking highlights Vietnam’s progress in improving living standards, healthcare services, and infrastructure while maintaining budget-friendly living costs.
The annual study assessed 12 categories, giving the highest weight to cost of living. Paul Delahoutre, founder of the ranking site, noted that retirees can save from 15 to 50 percent on daily expenses compared to life in France. Other key elements include climate, healthcare, safety, transportation, and tax conditions for transferring pensions abroad.
Vietnam secured the ninth spot, recognized as a balanced and promising option for foreign retirees seeking comfort and affordability. Portugal kept its lead, followed by Spain, Greece, Thailand, Mauritius, Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Experts encourage retirees to spend time in their chosen country before moving, ensuring a smooth adjustment to local communities. Vietnam’s presence on this list signals its rising reputation as an appealing and sustainable retirement haven in Southeast Asia.
My Take…
Vietnam just scored its first spot on the global “Where to Retire Without Crying Over Rent” list. About time. The country’s mix of decent infrastructure, solid healthcare, and wallet-hugging prices finally got noticed, proof you don’t need to sell a kidney to enjoy retirement.
It’s on my list for a very deep “boots on the ground” dive.
