Indian Entrepreneur Finds Peace Retiring In Chiang Mai

Arinjay Jain remembers the moment clearly. It was his 50th birthday, and he found himself in yet another meeting, suddenly wondering why he was still grinding so hard. Born in India, Jain had moved to Singapore in 2013 to work in IT, later cofounding his own services startup. The plan was simple: build, sell, cash out. But as years went by, the finish line kept moving.

When his real estate investments in India picked up, Jain realized he no longer needed to push through endless work stress. He began exploring places to retire and soon heard about Chiang Mai, Thailand. A short trip in 2023 convinced him it was the right place. By early 2024, he had packed up and started fresh.

Now on a Thai retirement visa, Jain spends his days hitting the gym, golfing, hiking, and enjoying relaxed walks around Chiang Mai University. His rent is modest, his schedule unhurried. The challenge, he says, is integrating with locals, the language can be tricky. Still, he’s content in his quieter life, far from the grind he once thought was essential. At 53, Jain says he’s finally found the balance he was looking for.

My Take…

Arinjay Jain hit 50 and had that mid-meeting epiphany: why the hell am I still doing this? The man had the classic startup dream, build, sell, escape. But like every “just one more milestone” story ever, the finish line kept ghosting him. Then his real estate deals back in India started paying off, and suddenly the nonstop hustle looked pretty stupid. Cue a vacation in Chiang Mai, Thailand, spoiler: he didn’t come back. Now he’s basically living a travel brochure, golf, gym, hikes, cheap rent. The hardest part? Thai vowels. The best part? Sanity. He’s done running. Finally unplugged the Matrix.
