Adventure Freaksss has finally answered the question followers have been asking for years. If Ré had to choose just one place to retire in Europe, where would it be? After years of travel, expat interviews, and deep research, three countries rise to the top: Spain, Albania, and Italy.
Spain captures attention with its relaxed lifestyle, sunny coastline, and strong residency options. Regions like Valencia and parts of Andalusia offer vibrant culture, excellent healthcare, and a pace of life that fits many retirees seeking balance and community.
Albania continues to gain momentum among expats looking for affordability and untouched beauty. The Albanian Riviera delivers stunning scenery along the Ionian Sea, welcoming locals, and a low cost of living that stretches retirement income further.
Italy earns the number one spot. From the charm of Puglia to the historic elegance of smaller towns, Italy brings together cuisine, architecture, walkable communities, and a deep sense of culture. Daily life feels rich and connected.
Ré encourages future retirees to explore what speaks to them personally. Europe offers endless possibilities for a fulfilling next chapter abroad.
My Take…
Adventure Freaksss finally answered the big one. If Ré had to park it somewhere in Europe and call it the forever spot, where’s the lawn chair going? After years of travel, interviews, and very deep dives, three finalists step up: Spain, Albania, Italy. Cue dramatic music.Spain is the laid back overachiever. Sun, coastline, solid residency paths. Valencia and Andalusia bring culture, healthcare, and that sweet unhurried rhythm. Think less hustle, more sobremesa. Not a bad way to age, right?Albania is the scrappy upstart. Gorgeous Ionian Sea views, friendly locals, lower costs. Italy wins though. Puglia, small towns, epic food, beauty everywhere. Daily life feels cinematic. Under the Tuscan Sun, minus Diane Lane.
