In opposition to increasing the retirement age beyond 60, Ronald Bhola argues for retirement as a time to pursue life-enhancing activities without economic worry.
Bhola cites how retirement was viewed in ancient China and examples like historian Edward Gibbon, who spent his retirement years happily writing history.
Prevalence of chronic diseases among government bureaucrats also adds to Bhola’s argument against the proposed policy for Retirees Returning to Work, indicating such a move could have disastrous effects.
My Take…
Whilst I agree having more good and healthy years to enjoy life would be great, the reality is, Governments cannot afford that.
The ageing population for many western countries is growing and the tax base to support that ageing population is shrinking. Sad, but true.
