John Rohan, the well-dressed Waterford real estate agent, had spent half a year showing a pair of hopeful homebuyers one unsuitable property after another. He was known for persistence, polish, and the uncanny ability to miss the mark. Yet, last week, he finally called with what he promised would be the one, a 200-year-old Georgian stone house set on seven rolling acres outside Waterford City.
The couple met him at his office under a rare blue Irish sky and followed through winding lanes framed by hedgerows and ivy-covered walls. When the high stone gate opened, Lahardan House revealed itself, symmetrical, stately, and quietly radiant beneath its massive ash tree.
Inside, original shutters still worked, fireplaces framed with marble stood gleaming, and sunlight poured across the floors. Even the old Waterford-made Stanley oven drew admiration. Each turn through its halls revealed another view worth keeping.
By the time their tour ended, minds were made up without a word. The drive back to town was silent except for birdsong fading behind them. Plans for paint colors and lawyers were already forming. After months of disappointment, it seemed clear, they hadn’t just found a house. They’d found home!
