GenX Retirement Dreams Hindered by Living Costs

The retirement dreams of GenX’er’s are suffering due to rising living costs, according to Schroders’ survey.

The report found that non-retired Americans aged 43-58 think they require an average of $1.1m to retire comfortably. However, they only expect to have around $661,013 saved.

The changing definition and age of retirement mean that GenX’er’s may continue working part-time or in different jobs, thus reducing worry over retirement funds.

My Take…

If you have no plan, plan to fail.
Location arbitrage is a great way to offset the lack of savings in retirement.
If you think you will fall short, start planning to live in a cheaper location.
