A Michigan man has traded the car business for Caribbean views and says retirement has never looked better.
After more than 40 years in the auto industry, Buzz Jackson packed up and moved to Santa Marta, Colombia. Today he lives in a two bedroom, two bath apartment overlooking the ocean and mountains for about 1000 dollars per month. The building includes three swimming pools, a gym, sauna, and social areas, offering what he calls one of the best views in the country.
Jackson shared his full cost of living, details on Colombia retirement visa requirements, and what he pays for healthcare. He explained why Santa Marta stood out to him and described daily life in the coastal city. He also opened up about what he misses from the United States and why he feels confident about staying long term.
For retirees curious about stretching their income and enjoying a laid back lifestyle abroad, his experience offers a real world example. Questions about moving to Colombia continue to grow as more Americans explore new options overseas.
My Take…
Buzz Jackson looked at retirement and thought, there has to be more than showroom lighting and tire kickers. So he bailed. Michigan to Santa Marta, Colombia. Ocean on one side, mountains on the other. Not exactly a midlife crisis Corvette. He now rents a two bedroom, two bath place for about 1000 dollars a month. For retirees eyeing better math and beach air, it is a compelling pitch. Turns out the American Dream might need a passport.
