He explains that he avoids the word immigrant since Thai law only grants a Non Immigrant stamp, requiring 90 day check ins and barring foreigners from land ownership or certain jobs. He runs a health foods company with a valid work permit, has paid Thai taxes for over ten years, and speaks the language fluently.
On property, he notes foreigners can’t legally own land but can use a superficies agreement to control it for 30 plus years, with homes often costing one to two million baht. He still recommends keeping most net worth outside the country.
He also shared details about his wife, a finance graduate he’s been with for 12 of his 15 years in Thailand, saying she outearned him when they met.
