Lynn Lewis just traded Phoenix for Bangkok, and she’s loving every bit of it. The YouTube channel The Isaiah Ashley Show caught up with her in the Asoke neighborhood, where she’s renting a condo for about 1200 dollars a month. Lewis, originally from Milwaukee, spent 26 years in Phoenix before deciding retirement there just wasn’t it. She wanted sunshine, affordability, and a change of pace.
Thailand wasn’t her first idea. She considered Mexico, Panama, Vietnam, Costa Rica, and Portugal too. In the end her money stretched further in Thailand, and she already loved the food and culture.
Watching Isaiah Ashley’s videos pushed her over the edge. She said she followed basically everyone he interviewed and figured if he could make the move, so could she.
Leaving her tight knit family in the States was tough. Lewis hopes they eventually join her, but if that doesn’t happen, she says she’ll head back to be near them instead. For now, she picked Asoke specifically because it’s walkable, close to the BTS and MRT, and near Terminal 21 mall. She moved in on May 20 and is already working on getting healthier while settling into her new life abroad.
My Take…
Phoenix to Bangkok. Lynn Lewis ditched 26 Arizona summers for a US$1200 Asoke condo, because nothing says retirement like escaping to a place where at least the humidity is honest. She skipped Mexico, Panama, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Portugal, basically the whole runway, then got nudged off the fence by some YouTube guy. Classic. Family’s still stateside. She’s hoping they follow. If not, she’s not above reversing the move. Bold plan, Lynn. Bold plan.
