Puerto Vallarta, known locally as Vallarta or simply “PV,” continues to attract people looking for a place to live, work, or retire on Mexico’s Pacific coast. The city, home to roughly 220,000 residents in its wider metro area, combines beach living with modern comforts. Its accessibility by air, sea, and road makes it an easy destination for expats from the U.S. and Canada, many of whom have turned vacations into permanent stays.
The weather stays warm throughout the year, averaging around 86°F (27°C), though July through September can bring heavy humidity and tropical rains. Tourism drives much of the local economy, supported by agriculture, light industry, and an emerging e-commerce scene. Real estate remains attractive: oceanfront condos, hillside villas, and growing developments north in Nuevo Vallarta and south toward Punta de Mita draw both foreign and domestic buyers.
Residents enjoy a mix of local flavor and modern amenities, supermarkets with imported goods, hospitals with U.S.-standard care, and an ever-expanding food scene. With its palm-lined coast, old-town charm, and reliable infrastructure, Puerto Vallarta continues to stand out as a comfortable, culturally rich destination where beach life meets urban convenience.
My Take…
Puerto Vallarta, “PV” if you’re already pretending you live there, still lures the usual mix of sun-chasers, laptop warriors, and retirees who’ve had it with shoveling snow. About 220,000 folks call this patch of Mexico’s Pacific home, and yeah, it’s got the postcard looks *and* Wi‑Fi. Easy flights, smooth roads, and, bonus, boats if you’re feeling dramatic. Heat? Constant. Summer humidity? Biblical. Tourism runs the show, with side gigs in farming, light industry, and online hustle. Real estate’s solid: beach pads, hillside views, take your pick. Add good hospitals, fancy groceries, tacos for days, and boom: paradise with plumbing. Gilligan never had it this good.
