Testing Retirement Dreams Under The Maltese Sun

Reporter Louise Slyth reflects on her month-long stay in Malta, a trial run for her potential retirement. Having grown up in Scotland and now based in Ireland, she hoped the Mediterranean sunshine might win her over.

She found Malta stunning, with English widely spoken, sunny skies, and lively outdoor culture.

The architecture, coastline, and historic sites impressed her, and the food scene delighted. Yet, the island’s small size, dense crowds, limited green space, and high living costs made it less appealing for a permanent move.

Slyth says she’s glad she visited but intends to keep searching for her ideal retirement spot.

My Take…
