YouTuber Explains Expat Life Rules In Thailand FAQ

A YouTuber based in Thailand has laid out the realities of long term expat life in a new FAQ post, explaining why he avoids calling himself an immigrant. Foreigners in Thailand get stamped Non Immigrant in their passports, requiring 90 day check ins, barring certain jobs, and blocking land ownership outright. Break the rules on work permits and deportation, plus a five to ten year ban, can follow.

He runs a health foods company with a permit covering his YouTube work and says he has paid Thai tax for over a decade, through an English school, a jazz lounge, and years in five star hotels. He also speaks Thai.

On land, he points to superficies agreements letting foreigners control property for 30 plus years, with houses often running one to two million baht. He suggests keeping most net worth, around 80 percent, in assets outside Thailand.

He also opened up about his wife of 12 years, a finance graduate who outearned and outowned him when they met.

Patreon and membership money, he added, goes straight to his wife’s extended family for food, school costs, and household needs.

My Take…

Stamped “Non Immigrant,” like a label on expired milk. Ninety day check ins, no land ownership, break the rules and poof, five to ten year ban. Fun times.
