Manzanillo Offers Relaxed Coastal Living In Mexico

Manzanillo sits quietly on Mexico’s Pacific coast, about four hours from Guadalajara and five from Puerto Vallarta. With around 160,000 residents, it blends the charm of a true port city with the peaceful rhythm of a beach town. Locals say life is easy here, warm winters, hot summers, and a salty breeze rolling in off the water.

The town divides naturally between its working harbor to the south and the resort bays stretching along the Santiago Peninsula. Downtown hums with port activity, while the resort side caters to both vacationers and year-round residents. Manzanillo’s cost of living is lower than in Mexico’s trendier coastal spots, and foreign residents are relatively few. Homes range from simple casitas to hillside villas with sweeping ocean views.

Daily needs are easily met in town, and more specialized shopping or healthcare is found in nearby Colima City, about 90 minutes away. The local airport links to Mexico City and seasonal routes to the U.S. and Canada. With reliable amenities, affordable prices, and a distinctly Mexican atmosphere, Manzanillo has become an appealing choice for those seeking a relaxed lifestyle, whether for work, retirement, or a new start by the sea.

My Take…

Manzanillo looks like my type of town. Smallish and less foreigners 🙂

Close enough to Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta to tempt you, far enough to dodge the tourist chaos.
