More Americans are packing up laptops and heading overseas, chasing lower costs and remote jobs that don’t care where they’re logged in from. A new wave of digital nomads is landing in cities that offer a fraction of US rent prices while still keeping decent WiFi and coffee shops around every corner.
Mexico City keeps pulling people in with its food scene and cheap apartments. Lisbon, Portugal remains popular too, even as prices creep up. Chiang Mai, Thailand still offers some of the lowest living costs on this list, with studios going for a few hundred dollars a month.
Medellín, Colombia continues drawing crowds for its weather and growing expat community. Tbilisi, Georgia surprises many with its low taxes and easy visa process. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam gives remote workers a fast paced city feel without the price tag of Bangkok.
Other spots making the cut include Budapest, Hungary, Split, Croatia, Tirana, Albania, Cape Town, South Africa, Da Nang, Vietnam, and Bansko, Bulgaria, a ski town turned nomad hub.
Each location lets Americans stretch paychecks further while working the same US hours, just from a different time zone and a much cheaper grocery bill.
My Take…
Yet another herd of Americans ditching Applebee’s for Oaxaca tacos, because remote work finally means nobody checks your zip code. The American Dream just got outsourced, baby.
